  • ABSTRACT

  • A dendroecological study of Larch (Larix decidua Mill.) was carried out in the Granon forest located in the Briançonnais area, in the Alps (S-E of France). Southern and northern slopes were sampled, and rings were analysed from 1919 to 1968. It reveals that the growth is better in South exposure, and that the ring-width of the final wood is correlated with September rainfall. Extreme temperatures during the year before the ring formation are also important, maybe for the cambium initiation. The largest rings are found during the most rainy years.
