  • ABSTRACT

  • Three mountain pine forests (with Pinus uncinata Mill. ex Mirb.) are compared with dendroecological methods in the three main bioclimatical areas in the occidental French Alps. They are respectively situated in Corrençon in the external rainy area (Vercors), in Chamrousse in the middle area (Belledonne), and in Briançon in the internal dry area. The radial growth as a function of age shows a similar low level for the two former sites, whereas a greater productivity is observed in the internal Alps. The mean sensitivity of the tree-rings decreases at the same time, while the first order autocorrelation coefficients increase. Thus, both the highest responses to high temperature during previous summer and the current spring precipitations influence are observed in Corrençon. The optimal rate of growth of the mountain pine seems to be located in the internal area.
